Applications for permanent residence for eligible family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents—processed either in Canada or Overseas. This program prioritizes family unity and offers pathways for spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners, dependent children, parents, grandparents, and, in rare cases, other eligible relatives.

A spouse or common-law partner of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is living with them in Canada on valid temporary resident status

Inland sponsorship is submitted while the sponsored person is living in Canada. It may allow the sponsored person to apply for an open work permit while the application is being processed. Outland sponsorship is submitted while the sponsored person is outside Canada and is generally processed at a visa office abroad.
